Drunk Woman

By Charles Lawrence

Sometimes I prefer the company of a drunk woman
Most of the time I prefer to be sober
But sometimes I don’t mind being a little drunk myself
The conversation seems more interesting
Maybe it’s the booze talking
Or maybe we’re all a little more interesting when we’re drunk
Maybe that’s why we go to parties
Everyone is a little drunk at parties
If someone recorded the conversations at parties
I think we might solve the world’s greatest problems
Of poverty, injustice, global warming
We might even cure a few diseases
“Hey Hank!  Good to see you. “
“You know, I think you’re you’re my new best friend”
“I was thinking about poverty in India”
“Why don’t they just create a computer program to solve that problem”
“You know, you have beautiful eyes.”
“Did anyone ever tell you that?”
“Did you go to Ohio State?”
“You look familiar”
Yes
Sometimes I prefer the company of a drunk woman

Love and Respect

By Charles Lawrence

You know what the secret to success is?

What will get you want you want?

It could lead to money, fame, happiness, contentment if that’s what you want.

Give everyone you meet, love and respect.

Not romantic love, unless it seems appropriate.

Brotherly love

Respect

Assume everyone deserves love and respect

And don’t hold back

Don’t wait until you get it from others

Give it freely.

Give it in abundance

Give it all the time

Love and respect

Even those who you think don’t deserve it

Even those who might have harmed you

Love and respect

Yes sir

Yes ma’am

Can I get that door for you?

The rich and the poor

Even to the dregs of society

Love and respect

People in wheelchairs

Love and respect

People who can’t hear or see

Love and respect

People who can’t give it back to you

Love and respect

Family

Friends

Certain enemies

Love and respect

Give it

Get it

RAG CLAD WOMAN, By Galeigh Parkin

AN OLD RAG CLAD WOMAN
STOOD BEFORE A COURTROOM CROWD
THE JUDGE ASKED HER A QUESTION,
HER HEAD, WAS LOWLY BOWED.

"IT'S LIKE THIS, YOUR HONOR,"
THE POOR OLD SOUL REPLIED,
"I HAD A SON IN COLLEGE
(YOU SEE, HIS DADDY DIED.")

"WELL OF COURSE HE NEEDED MONEY,"
ALTHOUGH THEY CALLED ME "JUST A FOOL,"
"I SOLD MYSELF TO MEN LIKE YOU
JUST TO PUT MY BOY THROUGH SCHOOL."

"HE DOES NOT KNOW, HE WILL NEVER KNOW
THAT MY HEAD HANGS, BOWED WITH SHAME,
I WOULD GO THROUGH HELL AND EVEN MORE
BEFORE I WOULD SPOIL HIS NAME."

"SO THROW ME IN YOUR JAILHOUSE,
I AM OLD AND A NUISANCE TOO.
BUT I WONDER IF YOUR MOTHER,
WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME FOR YOU?"

Eclipse

By Galeigh Parkin

'Hi Moon'
I bet you are proud of yourself being able 'to just hang out above'
Delighted, by looking down through space while dispersing your moonlit beacon.

Seemingly, you attempt to dominate the prominence of other celestial bodies.

When camouflaging your two-faced sphere, a temporary deception occurs
By transition, earths shadows are re-arranged from light, to a sullen dark side likened to, 'a temperamental mood swing'

How beautiful your wonder is yet at times your mysterious phases seem insincere and temporary.

Yes, you are above us all. However, humankind will not leave their footprints on me!
Now even you 'Mr. Moon' as have I, 'been stepped upon.
